Cooking Community Guided Courses

Guided Courses

In addition to live cooking sessions, meal plans, and recipes, the Cooking Community offers several guided courses throughout the year, each designed to help you stay on track, get delicious meals on the table, and learn a little along the way. Every course includes email lessons, live meetings for deeper discussions, and a supportive space to answer your questions and share the journey together. If you can’t attend the live sessions, treat them like a podcast and listen to them whenever you want–while cooking, cleaning, driving, or just relaxing. You can still interact in The Hub at your convenience.

Each course has its own unique focus, and they can be taken in any order. You can engage as much or as little as you like, whether you’re skimming the surface or diving deep into the details. Below is an overview of each course. If you have any questions or want to know when the next session starts, just send me an email at kristie@homemade.health

Collective Kitchen
Our newest course, Collective Kitchen, is all about doing and creating habits; building strong, sustainable routines so that shopping, prepping, and eating low-carb become second nature. Starting with an explanation of protein, fat, and carbs, we demonstrate how to build meals that give you what you need and how to modify those meals depending on your hunger.

Struggle with consistency between courses? This four-week course helps reinforce practical, doable, actionable items each week, from evaluating sales flyers to planning meals that fit your budget and lifestyle. With a solid plan in place, you’ll always have what you need to whip up nourishing, tasty meals; without the temptation of takeout. And, if you do dine out, we have suggestions for you to enjoy the meal and remain healthy! 2025 Collective Kitchen courses will be held in January, June, and September.

Navigator
Think of Navigator as your low-carb fundamentals course. Over five weeks, we focus on setting priorities, practicing them, and celebrating small wins along the way. This is a practical, day-to-day “how-to” guide for eating low-carb. If you’re starting (or restarting) and aren’t sure where you might be slipping up, I’ll help you keep and review your own food logs, troubleshoot challenges, and fine-tune your approach. No deep dives into the science here although we do provide references—just real-life strategies to make low-carb eating work for you.

Compass
If Navigator is the “how,” Compass is the “why.” This course takes a deeper dive into the science behind low-carb living. We’ll explore macros, protein, meal timing, chrononutrition, sleep habits, and even… songbirds (trust me on this one!). We’ll also look at research on weight management, obesity myths, and the role of ultra-processed foods. Over five weeks, we’ll track what we’re eating, assess whether adjustments are needed, and tackle some of the more advanced topics that can impact our health. Even if science isn’t your thing, you’ll still gain valuable insights and enjoy the supportive community. If science is your thing, we will take time to pick apart the research and to see what it means in practical terms for us. 2025 Compass courses will be held in February and tentatively in October.

Holiday Survival Guide
November and December can feel like a whirlwind of school events, work parties, and social gatherings—all demanding our time, energy, and willpower. Holiday Survival Guide helps you navigate the season without losing sight of your goals. The first two weeks focus on smart strategies for potlucks, catered dinners, and holiday treats. Then, during Thanksgiving week, we put those strategies to the test. Did they work? If not, we’ll regroup and adjust so you can finish the season strong, without waiting for January to get back on track. At the same time, we’re giving you delicious holiday recipes to make, enjoy and to share! 2025 Holiday Survival Guide will begin around November 10.

Extras
Throughout the year, we also offer fun extras, little “mini-courses” such as an Introduction to Sous Vide cooking, mini courses for Easter and summer cook-outs, and a series of “GaraniMeals” cooking sessions. GaraniMeals are my version of the mix and match clothes we used to get when our kids were little. The dates for these will vary and when you’re in the Community, you can always stay up to date with the calendar and schedule on the Current Month page.

We also host weekly chat sessions called Community Dish. These chats are all stand alone gatherings, not tied to a course or planned agenda. The Dish is to hang out and chat about what we have going on and how we, your Cooking Community, can help make your coming week a little easier. These are hosted in The Hub, like the weekly live cooking sessions.
